Choosing your energy efficient kitchen

Our customers prioritise energy savings. Whether you want to lower bills or aim to be more environmentally conscious, the kitchen is the obvious place to start! If you are planning a kitchen renovation this year, you can get a head start by investing in products that are efficient, innovative, and quiet.
Here are some of our suggestions…
Understand the ratings
Oven energy ratings go from A+++ to D. If you choose the highest energy efficient rating you can afford, it will pay dividends in the long run. Aim for an A graded appliance or A+, A++, or even A+++ depending on the space that you have available.
Other appliances are ranked A to G. Labels are slightly different for each product type so take some time to understand the specifics. Washing machines labels for example, will give you an idea of capacity, water consumption and noise.
Combi Ovens
A combi oven is very energy efficient and will run off electricity or gas. Water is circulated into the oven to provide steam. The filtration system will remove salts that are in the water and prevent any scaling and keep it functioning efficiently.
A combi oven uses a minimum amount of water and power. Insulation prevents heat loss, which also helps cut down on energy use.
Induction Hobs
An induction hob uses energy more efficiently than a gas or electric hob. This is because no energy is wasted heating the space around the pan. Electric hobs are your next best bet in terms of efficiency because when you’re cooking with gas a significant amount of heat is lost to heating up your kitchen, rather than your food.

Quooker Boiling Water Taps
We waste a lot of water in the kitchen leaving a tap to run until its cold enough for a drink. We boil more water than we need to in a kettle and often need to re-boil if the water has gone cold!
A Quooker tap can give you both chilled, filtered water and boiling water instantly. You will only ever use the exact amount of water you need.
But that is not all, you will also save energy:
A Quooker consists of two parts: a boiling-water tap on top of the worktop and a small tank under it, in which the water is stored at a temperature of 110ºC. This tank acts like a thermos flask that’s connected to the water mains. Thanks to the high-vacuum insulation, the heat can’t escape. That means that only very little energy (10 watts) is required to keep the water in the tank at boiling point.

LED Lighting
LED lights use up to 75% less energy than conventional forms of lights. They emit negligible heat energy, as the vast majority of energy is released in the form of light.
LED bulbs last significantly longer than other bulbs because they don’t have any parts that burn or break down over time. LEDs can last up to 25,000 hours giving you almost three years of constant use!
Use the Functions!
Kitchen Living’s designer James says:
“By familiarising yourself with and utilising the special functions within your products, you can make them operate as efficiently as possible.
For instance, utilising the no-frost function in your refrigeration is crucial. I’m not mentioning this solely because it eliminates the need to defrost your freezer! When ice accumulates, it obstructs the vents, causing your appliance to work twice as hard and waste energy.
Certain built-in oven models from Samsung feature an Air Frying function. Utilising this function will reduce your cooking time and energy consumption.
We’ve also observed the introduction of Zeolith drying in specific dishwasher models. This technology uses the natural mineral Zeolite to absorb moisture and convert it to heat. This results in remarkably efficient air distribution and excellent drying.”
